Abstract: One of the important new tools for e-business is registry technology that provides distributed resources to businesses either passively on demand, or actively during daily operations. The term ‘registry’ itself is a very widely used one that applies to a myriad of different entities. This article will outline the purposes and functions of e-business registries, discuss the importance of standards in the development of such registries, examine the current leading registry standards, describe a few examples of working e-business registries today, and evaluate the leading registry approaches against the needs of doing business.
